Objective
Parkinson’s Together 501(c)3 is planning to host a student symposium focused on improving awareness regarding Parkinson’s disease and other neurological conditions. Our primary goal is to increase active student involvement in efforts related to Parkinson’s disease through an educational and interactive symposium featuring patients, researchers, physicians, medical students, community organizations, and college clubs all related to Parkinson’s disease and neurological disorders. We hope to achieve these goals by planning interactive activities where students will learn more about Parkinson’s disease and providing various opportunities for them to get involved in patient care and research. Students from multiple universities will have the opportunity to present their neurology-related mini research posters in a warm, collaborative environment and receive feedback. We are also using the symposium as a fundraiser to raise money to donate to an organization actively conducting Parkinson’s related research and improving patient care. The date for the symposium will take place on April 1st, 2023 at the Tangeman University Center's Great Hall in the University of Cincinnati.
Why Is This Unique?
Our strong focus on student-involvement and collaboration in Parkinson’s disease research and care sets our event apart from others. While other events aim solely to inform participants on what Parkinson’s disease is and the status of current treatments, we aim to include ways that college students can get involved and provide opportunities for them to make connections with physicians and community organizations. Our primary audience would be college students with an interest in neurological and movement disorders who wish to learn about how they can actively support patients.
