Mallika Desai is the founder and president of Parkinson's Together 501(c)3 as well as the UC Parkinson's Together Chapter. She started this organization with the multi-talented team because of a connection she formed with a retirement home resident while volunteering in high school. Watching the resident go through not only the immense pathological hurdles that Parkinson's disease brings upon any individual, but also the economic and social issues she and her family faced were heart-breaking but also something Mallika believes student and community support integrated in patient care can help with.
Born in Milford, Ohio, Vishnu Rajkumar is a fourth year college undergraduate majoring in Medical Sciences at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Over the years, Vishnu has developed a passion for medicine, nutrition and community service, and is interested in exploring the link between these topics as they relate to patients. He does this by coordinating a variety of research and community projects all aiming to improve patient education on treatment options and quality of life. Through his time in Parkinson’s Together and as non profit vice president, Vishnu is excited to learn more about Parkinson’s disease and how doctors, community organizations, and patients all collaborate to treat neurological conditions.
Originally from Indianapolis, Kara is a senior studying Medical Sciences at UC. Since a loved one was diagnosed several years ago, Kara has been pursuing ways to get involved in the Parkinson’s community, and is excited about the research, as well as other components of the organization. In her free time, she enjoys reading and cooking.
Originally from Virginia Beach, Virginia, Chloe Sabile is a third-year undergraduate student majoring in Medical Sciences at UC. Despite initially limited knowledge about Parkinson's Together, Chloe was drawn to our cause out of a desire to make a difference in her local Cincinnati community. With a passion for medicine and a heart for service, she aims to bring new perspectives while staying dedicated to our goals. Through her role as non-profit treasurer, Chloe has the opportunity to collaborate with different organizations to raise awareness for Parkinson's Disease and plan various events that help spread this organization's mission.
From Cincinnati, Ohio, Niyati is a fourth year undergraduate studying Medical Sciences at the University of Cincinnati. In high school, Niyati enjoyed volunteering at the local hospital, where she interacted with many different kinds of patients. When her grandfather was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, she became interested in learning more about the condition and how students may be able to provide for patients. Joining Parkinson's Together as a first year college student, she has been excited to channel her interest in service into creating volunteering opportunities for students to serve the Parkinson's community.
Meet Shashank Obulasetti, an adventurous and passionate student studying Neuroscience at the University of Cincinnati. Driven by his hunger for learning, Shashank is constantly looking to find new opportunities to explore and engage in new projects. He has a passion to help others and improve the communities around him. Over the course of his involvement as secretary of Parkinson's Together, Shashank is thrilled to collaborate with doctors, healthcare professionals, researchers, and organizations to spread awareness and explore Parkinson's disease.
Rama is an undergraduate student majoring in Medical Sciences at UC. After volunteering at a nursing home and connecting with a resident diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, she has been passionate about learning more and spreading awareness about Parkinson's. Through her role as social media chair, she has the opportunity to spread this organization's mission through creative and collaborative ways.
